Inspired by Jennifer Mercede

After stumbling across Jennifer Mercede's beautiful artwork, I was inspired to try my hand at playing with repetitive whimsical patterns and colors. My first attempt turned out to be far more about the process than the results, but that is all that art journaling is about! This spread was so much fun to create, and was a wonderful practice in playing, trusting instincts, and letting go. I'm definitely going to try this again soon.

You can find all of Jennifer's beautiful artwork at her Flickr account. Check it out!

Thanks for sharing this, beautiful! I might try something out like this a little later today, just for something different. Do you have any tips you would like to share?

Also I left you a question in an old blog post a while back, but you probably don't get notifications on old posts like that. Remember when we traded ATCs (quite) a while back? Well, I don't have any pictures of the cards I made you anymore and I was wondering if you would mind me posting on my blog the picture of my ATCs that you took after you received them.

Thank you so much for everything, Ingrid, keep making your beautiful beautiful art. xox.

Hey, gorgeous!

So lovely to hear from you. I am certain that I sent you an email reply for that comment - I do receive notifications on all my posts! - but perhaps it didn't reach you for some reason. I sent you another email, but am pasting it here as well, in case it doesn't reach you.

As for tips on the Jennifer Mercede painting.. let go, follow your instincts, and play with patterns! The two hardest things for me were to really simply enjoy the process without becoming concerned about the results, and being patient enough for the paint to dry! Keep in mind that the colors will smudge if you don't give it time between coats; it seems like such common sense, but I always forget, and that's why my colors are so muted in the photos. Ah well - next time!

All my love!
